The month of March kicked off with a celebration when five Bossier Parish schools were awarded the Path to Excellence designation by the Alliance for Education. This distinction singles out Bossier and Caddo schools ranking in the top quarter throughout the state based on strides made from the previous year.
Bossier Elementary, Carrie Martin Elementary, Plantation Park Elementary, Princeton Elementary and T.O. Rusheon Middle School were recognized at a ceremony and pep rally March 1 at Bossier Instructional Center for their state School Performance Scores (SPS) and the significant progress shown during the 2015-16 academic year.
Bossier Elementary posted a 9.2 jump in its SPS; Princeton Elementary moved up two letter grades; Carrie Martin, Plantation Park and Rusheon Middle increased a letter grade; and Carrie Martin and Princeton were named Top Gains Schools by the Louisiana Department of Education.
“School improvement is hard work and significant school improvement indicates principals, teachers, school staff and parents have been successful in engaging students in learning,” said Dr. Phillip Rozeman, Chairman of the Alliance for Education. “It is our hope the neighborhoods served by these schools, and our community as a whole, will join in celebrating school improvement.”
Alliance for Education, founded 13 years ago by Dr. Rozeman, is a philanthropic arm of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce for K-12 education. In addition to receiving banners to display, the five schools were also given monetary awards by the Alliance for Education, in partnership with Willis Knighton Health System.
“It is important to recognize schools, especially when the efforts made by teachers, students, parents and staff result in improved student achievement,” said Dr. Timothy Magner, President of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. “We hope that this recognition will encourage and inspire these school families to continue their positive journey on the Path to Excellence.”
Bossier Schools Superintendent Scott Smith lauded the schools for achieving higher standards as the academic bar for achievement continues to be raised. He also praised the Alliance for Education for its commitment to recognize public education’s success stories.
“Every day our educators are inspiring students to reach higher, to push the envelope
