The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Dr. Phillip Rozeman and created a Higher Education Taskforce whose purpose is to create more and better higher education opportunity for the people and businesses of the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area with an eye to the importance of post-secondary education to the economy and quality of life of the area.
The taskforce's objectives are:
- Short-term - develop a collaboration strategy between higher education, business, economic development and government leadership to develop and support a community strategy to:
o aggressively tell our story and support Northwest LA higher education institution in efforts to maintain and improve education opportunities for the people of Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area
o provide united focus and communication plan to deal with higher education funding issues affecting higher education performance in our region
- Long-term - develop a set of community-wide post-secondary education goals with metrics and communication plan with the following focus:
o provide for post high school education opportunities in the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area
o provide flexible, effective and connected system to meet the economic development needs of Shreveport-Bossier region
o connect higher education with regional career possibilities
o consider "performance based funding" aspects and focus on higher education completion rates as a basis for community goals and metrics
The taskforce is working closely with the regional colleges and universities in accomplishing these goals.
