A Welcome Center for Sports and Recreation
A Welcome Center for Sports and Recreation
Shreveport's Independence Stadium located on the Louisiana State Fairgrounds is home to the NCAA's Annual Independence Bowl and is host to other regional college games and professional scrimmages. There are many options for the avid golfer with over 15 courses available. Challenging signature courses by Hal Sutton and Fred Couples and a course designed with input from PGA Champion David Toms make Greater Shreveport a fun and exciting place for golf. Locals and visiting tourists hooked on fishing enjoy reeling on the Red River and northwest Louisiana lakes in a number of tournaments held throughout the year. Bass, catfish, perch and brim are regular catches of the day. With Harrah's Louisiana Downs, a first-class thoroughbred horseracing track and gaming facility, the area attracts thousands of spectators year-round. Horse-riding enthusiasts can also be found saddling up for fun and fame at amateur team pinning events and professional rodeos. Adding to the area's drawing power for sporting and music events is the CenturyTel Arena, a state-of-the-art venue suitable for top-name concerts and Olympic-sized competitions. Other favorite pastimes include auto racing at the Red River Raceway and Boothill Speedway, and a full-range of sports action highlighting the martial arts, dance, cheerleading and gymnastics. Locals also find time to suit up for basketball, lacrosse, soccer and softball. Whether you're into billiards and bowling or archery and shooting, you’ll find Greater Shreveport is a welcome center for sports and recreation.
