4.During the 2017 legislative session, ten Justice Reinvestment Bills were passed with the goals of reducing incarceration, discouraging recidivism and reinvesting savings in prisoner rehabilitation. In what ways do you believe those reforms were successful and in what changes, if any, are necessary to address deficiencies in the reform efforts?

5. Youth crime in the City of Shreveport has exploded in recent months. What role, if any, does the Sheriff play in helping to address that increase and are there areas in public safety where you believe combining services between the City and Parish makes sense?

6.The Caddo Correctional Center (CCC) and the Caddo juvenile detention center are routinely at or above capacity. As Sheriff, what steps do you believe need to be taken to address these capacity issues?

7.While the Sheriff’s Office is vital to law enforcement, it is only one component of our public safety system. What changes, if any, would you make in how the Sheriff’s office works with the District Attorney, Public Defenders, judges and other components of the public safety system?

8.Parish residents already pay almost 19 mills in property taxes to support law enforcement and jail facilities and there is currently a new public safety millage on the ballot for this fall. Do you believe this millage increase is necessary and if so, where would you allocate those funds to improve public safety?

9.Louisiana is the only state in the nation without a centralized sales tax collection. In 2021 and 2022 efforts to implement streamline sales tax collection in Louisiana failed.
